Why Do Pills Like Vitamins Contain Lactose?

I happened upon this news segment called “Ask the Doctor” which is on Sunday House Calls on FOX news. The concept behind this segment is viewers can email in and ask questions which Doctor Rosenfeld answers. This one email asked the question “Why Do Pills Like Vitamins Contain Lactose?” While he states he has no idea why companies use lactose in pills like vitamins he does believe that there isn’t enough lactose in these pills to cause any of the normal discomforts caused by lactose intolerance.
Furthermore, Dr Rosenfeld states that while he has no affiliation with any company he knew of several people including one of his own children who have successfully completed the 38 day Lactagen® program and are no longer suffering from the symptoms of lactose intolerance.
